Hellooooo everybody! I've been maintaining a stony silence on dA for a few months, because I've been so so busy. But now I'm not quite so busy! So I can be here for a bit!
(I'll be right back after I stop spilling tea on my laptop)
Ok, no damage done. So - new things! Over the past 7 months I've been working on setting up a small business, making and selling costume jewellery and accessories inspired by Japanese street fashions. The story is probably cliche - I couldn't sleep one night, and the idea for re-opening my shop formed. Initially my idea was to make and sell anime and J-fashion charms at Hyper Japan; but thought licensed things probably wouldn't be allowed there. Because of that and the fact that my shop name was 'Paper Stars' at the time, I decided to make charms depicting various Japanese fashions, and in addition, some accessories made with paper stars. In the end, I had more fun designing and making the accessories than the charms, so they became the main focus. I then decided that 'Paper Stars' was a bit of a boring name, so I changed it to...
Let's Go Fairily! My main focus is making accessories out of paper stars - which have been varnished, so they're water resistant and really strong. Both the varnish and the varnishing process took months to develop. If I missed a step, or did things in the wrong order, or used the wrong type of varnish, the paper would get soaked and the star would be ruined. Quite the challenge! There were a few stumbling points along the way, but I've got the process down. The varnish is a trade secret.
My first time as a dealer at Hyper Japan was great! I had so much fun, and I'll definitely do it again. I'm not sure when, though - I'm looking at going back into education, and found a course that seems right for me. I won't say anything more here in case I jinx it, but I'm really hoping I get this opportunity.
That's about it, really! How have you guys been?
